Caroline Hauer is a Norwegian artist working primarily with mixed media and collage. Her work is characterized by a raw, layered expression where texture, contrast and unexpected details play an important role. Hauer often begins with a clear idea of how she wants a work to look. As the process unfolds, however, the artwork can take its own direction. Layers are added, altered and sometimes removed through the use of acrylic, spray, pastel, ink, collage and other materials. Perfection is not the goal. Character is. The traces, imperfections and unexpected elements that emerge along the way are often what give a work its identity. Hauer embraces these elements rather than trying to conceal them, creating works that balance intention with spontaneity. She works both independently and in series, using recurring symbols, contrasts and visual elements to create connections between individual works. Her series often leave space for interpretation rather than providing a single, definitive answer. Hauer’s aim is to create work that makes the viewer stop, look closer and perhaps discover something they did not see at first.
